17 February 2014 (Hong Kong) – Ahead of the announcement of the full Festival line-up on 27 February, the Hong Kong International Film Festival (HKIFF) Society announced that “That Demon Within”, will close the 38th HKIFF. Directed by Dante LAM, and starring Daniel WU, Nick CHEUNG, Andy ON and LIU Kai-chi, the film will have its Asian Premiere on 7 April at Hong Kong Cultural Centre. The film was premiered at this year’s Berlin Film Festival’s Panorama Special section.
Action maestro Dante LAM strikes again with a fierce psychological thriller. In Nick CHEUNG’s fourth outing with director LAM he plays a gang leader whose life is saved by taciturn and dutiful cop Daniel WU. But Cheung continues on his violent crime spree causing a guilt-ridden Wu to devise an outlandish scheme that will cause the gang to implode. Wu’s obsession threatens his sanity, and crimes he commits in the name of justice begins to snowball…Can the demon within be kept there?
That Demon Within is a quintessential Hong Kong-style action thriller, filled with tense shoot-outs, daring stunt scenes, and a plot about good and evil that thrills at a breakneck pace. Audiences will find themselves truly on the edge of their seats, with every emotion and sense challenged to the limit.
The 38th HKIFF will run from 24 March to 7 April, 2014. Details of the programme will be announced on 27 February 2014.
